Want to come with?
This isn’t a joke posting. This isn’t a goal I’m setting for myself that I’m going to try to achieve. This isn’t my geeky side letting loose saying, “Oh my God I really want to see this.” This is me flat out saying I’m going to New York to see this show even if it means I have to go by myself. Let me explain.
Will Ferrell is making his Broadway debut. It’s a one-man show called “Your Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush.” Adam McKay is directing it.
Who?
Oh, he’s the guy that co-wrote and directed the movies “Anchorman” “Talladega Nights” and “Step-Brothers”. Those just happen to be, in my opinion, Will Ferrell’s best movies. Ok “Old School” belongs on that list too.
Some people don’t like him but I happen to think that Will Ferrell is one of the funniest people alive. Sure, not all of his movies are winners, but I think Adam McKay really understands how to use his talent to the best of his capacity. He was the head writer of SNL when Ferrell was on and that’s when the two really connected and I still remember going to see “Anchorman” hoping it would be funny and leaving the theater feeling I just saw one of the funniest movies ever.
Here the post in variety that got my attention in the first place.

Now, I’m sure with a title like that and the people involved it’s going to be a two-hour show of Bush bashing. I don’t care. With these two involved it’s going to be hysterical Bush bashing and I’m not looking for political analysis from them anyways. So to quote Jerry Maguire, “Who’s coming with me?” I’m serious when I say I will go to New York by myself. I don’t care if it means flying there, watching the show and flying back without sleeping for a day. That’s how bad I want to see this show. But that’s no fun. Why not make a small trip out of this? So give me a call. The show plays from February 1st until March 16th, I’m sure tickets will be hard to come by no matter what day it is but we should still try.
Here’s a little of Ferrell’s Bush from the SNL days. If it doesn’t make you laugh then you and I are on a-two a-different a-wavelengths.
I think that sells itself.

Incriminating Evidence
Well it turns out that Steve isn’t the only person reading this thing, it seems I’ve got a fan in the person of Matt Hawkins too. And to that I say “Hi Hawk! Welcome aboard. I hope everything is well with your lovely wife Emily and adorable new son Fin.”
Now you may wonder why all the excitement over the knowledge that Matt Hawkins reads this blog (or at least read it once). Well there are two reasons for that really. One, Matt Hawkins is the coolest goddamn person on the entire planet. And two, he’s my boss and I’ve never been above kissing ass.
You may recall about a month ago I wrote about my discovery of Pizza Shuttle and how awesome it is. In that post I mentioned that I happened to go to Pizza Shuttle while I was on the clock with a co-worker of mine named Eric. Well, on Tuesday I came into work and Eric looked at me and said “Nice blog.” I was thrilled! Had word been getting out on OH SCOTTY? Were people actually reading it? I’d never once mentioned it to Eric so I had no idea how he’d have heard of it.
“You’ve read it?” I asked waiting in anticipation for the praise of my brilliant writings that was sure to follow.
“No” Eric responded, “but I guess Hawk has?” Now I was really confused. Apparently Eric worked at the Renaissance Palace with Hawk on Saturday and was once again brining the food and once again staying for late night aps. As soon as Eric walked in Hawk greeted him saying “Oh here’s Scotty’s friend Eric, they go to Pizza Shuttle together all the time.” Or something to that effect.
It appears that one day I checked my blog on Hawk’s computer and must have left it up or it just stayed as part of his history. Either way he read the post about going to Pizza Shuttle. That’s right. My boss read my written confession of leaving the place I was working to go get pizza and beer. Oh Scotty. Now while at most places this might be grounds for dismissal at Saz’s it’s actually pretty low on the totem pole in terms of breaking the rules. Hawk hasn’t said anything to me about the incident so I’m guessing I’ll live to get fired another day, but it’s good to know that maybe I should be slightly more careful about what I write on this thing. I’m just glad I never wrote about that keg I stole.
Damn it!

Sorry Jaz
Here's a clip from a sketch aired on Saturday Night Live’s special Thursday edition for the election. The entire sketch was a parody of last Tuesday’s debate. I think this part is genius for two reasons.
1.) It’s making fun of the Cubs, which is always a good time, and
2.) It shows how at these debates most of the answers are so prepackaged by both candidates that it doesn’t matter what you ask them they’re going to answer the same way to everything. Really listen to what both Obama and McCain say and tell me you don’t think their answer wouldn’t be similar in real life.

Worst Week, Best Show
Just a quick one today. I think it should be known that I've now seen three episodes of CBS's new comedy Worst Week and I'm ready to declare it not only the funniest new show of the season, but the best. I was afraid the concept of a guy continually screwing things up for him and his fiance as they tell prepare to tell her parents that she's pregnant was going to get old after the first episode, it hasn't. The two episodes that followed the pilot have been equally hilarious. The cast continues to grow as we meet more and more of the fiancĂ©’s family (the introduction of her brother was hysterical). Kurtwood Smith, the dad from THAT 70'S SHOW, shows once again that he's the best there is at playing disapproving fathers. And Kyle Bornheimer, as Sam, the good guy that just want to show everyone how much he loves his fiance and how he truly dose deserve her, holds the show together with his star making performance.
Trust me, any show that features birds that are mistaken for erections, a pacifist superhero named "Peace Mon", and two parents forced to hear their daughter loser her virginity over a baby monitor is worth checking out. It's on Monday's at 8:30 central time, on CBS. It's on right after Two and a Half Men. That show's supposed to be pretty funny too, but my guess is it's no Worst Week.

Comedic Genius Thy Name Is Colbert
I know lately this blog seems to be more of me posting videos made by other people rather than me writing my actual thoughts but what can I say? I’ve been busy. I just saw a video on Facebook from college humor called Don’t Vote. It annoyed me. It was basically a bunch of celebrities (Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Aniston, Dustin Hoffman, Sara Silverman, and Jonah Hill to name a few) starting off saying how unimportant voting was. They were obviously being ironic, saying things like “Don’t vote. Who cares about your children’s education? Don’t Vote. It doesn’t matter that this one of the biggest financial disasters in American History.” They then go on to explain just how important voting really is and give a website that will tell you how to get registered to vote.
While they don’t make a point of saying it, I’m fairly certain they’re far less concerned that you vote if your vote is going to McCain. What a crock of shit. Maybe I’m just cynical but I’m going to go ahead and guess that Ashton Kutcher doesn’t give two shits about my right to vote. Do celebrities really think they’re helping when the do this? Has anybody ever said “Well Jamie Foxx said I should do it, I guess it’s the right thing to do.” I like most of the actors that were in the video but really, come on, this is just sad.
Which brings me to Stephen Colbert’s video; I put him in a different league than the other stars I mentioned because he’s a political satirist and is obviously making a joke while the actors in the Don’t Vote video actually think they’re making a difference. The PSA section of this video had me in tears, check it out.

Anyone Can Be President
So here’s the trailer for the new Oliver Stone movie W. I have no idea what this movie’s going to be about besides the obvious (George W. Bush’s life) but how much of it is going to cover his presidency and how much is going to cover prior to that? I think Oliver Stone is an amazing director who always makes interesting films even if he doesn’t always make good ones. Alexander, and World Trade Center certainly weren’t perfect films, but that had more to do with the scripts and acting (or over acting in Alexander’s case) then with Stone as a director. He still has a passion to make movies that can be seen in all of his work.
What I like most about the trailer is that as soon as it starts you can tell it’s from an Oliver Stone movie. The quick cuts, the intensity, the music. I think it’s amazing how well The Talking Heads “Once in a Lifetime” fits with the trailer. It’s almost seems like the song was written for the movie. And who else but Oliver Stone would feature a scene of the current commander in chief screaming in panic in one of their films? Most people view Stone as a liberal, and while I’m certain he never voted for Bush I don’t think he’s necessarily going to make a movie that’s going to make fun of him. He directed the movie Nixon which I haven’t seen yet but it’s #2 on my Netflix queue, right after Stone’s J.F.K. However I have two very two conservative friends who have seen it and absolutely love it. That movie isn’t just saying Nixon was a bad person for Watergate, it was saying he was a brilliant man who was also very flawed. I’ll be very disappointed if the movie turns out to be just a two hour long Saturday Night Live sketch.
The truth is I think George W. Bush is a fascinating person. I don’t agree with him on many things and didn’t vote for him in 2004 (I was too young to vote in 2000) but I think it’s amazing how polarizing he is as a person. Face it, 2004 had nothing to do with John Kerry running for president, it was about whether or not you wanted Bush to remain in office. I still remember most liberal’s mantra that year was “anybody but Bush.” No wonder he won. When slightly less than half the nation agrees on one guy and slightly more than half the nation can only agree on the fact that they don’t want one guy but aren’t really sure who they do want then slightly more than half the nation is going to be very disappointed.
This election is still about George W. Bush. Obama’s pretty much copyrighted the word “Change” a.k.a. “Not George Bush” And even McCain’s jumped on the change bandwagon claiming he truly is the candidate for change. I actually can’t wait until Bush writes and publishes his memoirs because I’m dying to truly hear his take on his eight years as president. I also think it will be kind of interesting, and funny, to see if he records his own audio book. Can you imagine listening to him read an entire book?
Will any of what I said above get put into the movie Stone’s releasing on October 17th? I have no idea. The whole things been very hush hush every since he started filming it in Aril. The fact that he’s managed to film, edit, and release the movie in such a quick manner fascinates me. Spielberg did the same thing when he made Munich and I thought that was one of his best movies to date. Anyways that was a very long winded way of saying I’m really looking forward to this flick and I thought I’d share the trailer with you to get your two cents. Enjoy.
One last thing. I think Josh Brolin will do a pretty good job as Bush, but how awesome would it have been if Stone would have gotten Will Ferrell to star in it instead. I know I said that I didn’t want the movie to be an SNL sketch and I don’t. But I think if Stone would have cast Ferrell and gotten a dramatic performance out of him. It would have been pretty incredible and maybe have gotten even more people to go see it. Look how many people went to go see The Dark Knight because they wanted to see Heath Ledger’s amazing performance.

Well At Least We Know It's Not Another Conrad Bloom
Well, Fringe is the first new show this season to get picked up for a full season and I’m happy. So far I like the show. I haven’t fallen in love with it like I have with the other new show I started watching this season, Worst Week but I think it has the possibility of become something great. All the actors do a really good job in their roles and I’ve come to find that with the exception of the first episode it seems you can pretty much watch any episode in any order and not be too out of balance which is actually kind of nice. Heroes is fine I guess but it’s definitely starting to wear thin. Each episode is filled with so many “whoa what was that about?” moments that take so long to get answered, if they get answered at all, that watching the show is starting to feel like running on a tread mill. It makes you feel good but you’re really not going anywhere.
Fringe has some questions that have yet to be answered but each episode is a singular adventure with a beginning middle and an end. I'll be interested to see where the go over the full 22 episodes of the first season. Check it out, it’s a fun time.
